The Fair Trek Ambassador Team (FATeam) is a group of Fair Trek tour guides that will work with the communities that Fair Trek keeps a relationship with.
We created the FAT team because we identified the need to have a team of local people, (that knows both Lao and ethnic languages) that works directly with the villages and become the bridge between our company, the tourist and the community. The FATeam will make sure the community is heard and taken into account regarding the projects and relationship with Fair Trek. They will bring feedback from the villagers to our headquarters, feedback that will ensure the communities needs are met. The FATeam will also collect information from the villagers, to make sure the information our guides are telling the tourists is right and approved by the communities.
One of the first projects the FATeam is in charge of is called “Guided by locals”. This project aims to train a local guide in each of the villages that we work with. This way, the community will be the one telling their story, they will be involved directly with our tourists and students, and will generate another income to the community. This local tour guides will also build important skills that will prove valuable in a country where tourism is growing at a fast pace.
The FATeam will also be in-charge of the home-stay trainings Fair Trek organizes for the host families, community days where Fair Trek monitors the process of each project and the different surveys Fair Trek does regularly in the village to make sure all of the villages heard.
The Fair Trek Ambassador team is an initiative that seeks to close the gap between tourist and communities making sure tourism benefits both and the partnership is transparent and honest.
